COSY IN CASHMERE

COZY IN CASHMERE

So soft and comfortable that you can hardly believe that this natural fiber comes from a goat: cashmere (also known as cashmere in the Netherlands) . Of course not just any goat, but the cashmere goat, originating from the Himalayas. Cashmere is a luxurious type of wool which you often see in the OGER collection, both in winter and summer. You will find various items from us Corneliani , jackets and sweaters from Loro Piana and jackets and jackets from Cesare Attolini . But why does an item made of cashmere often have such a high price tag?

What is cashmere?

To understand why the prices of cashmere products are higher than average, it is essential to understand what exactly cashmere is. The wool of the cashmere goat is extracted by combing the goat's undercoat. The soft fibers are therefore not made from the long hair of the goat, these are of a stiffer quality. Not only is combing this undercoat a time-consuming process, but the resources are also very limited. The undercoat can only be collected once a year per goat. In addition, it sometimes takes up to 4 goats to produce one sweater. This makes the wool of the cashmere goat extremely rare and therefore priced higher

The benefits of cashmere

The first reason (and the most important for the chilly among us) is that high-quality cashmere can be up to 8 times as warm as sheep's wool, depending on its thickness. The thinner cashmere sweaters, on the other hand, can also be worn outside in winter.

Not convinced yet? Then we would like to tell you that cashmere is super soft. The extra fine fibers are smaller than 18.5 micrometers. Even more important: the fabric does not itch because the fibers curl together instead of running straight, as with Angora wool, for example.

Unlike wool and cotton, a cashmere item does not pill. This means that in a number of years you will still enjoy wearing the sweater, without that annoying lint.
You also do not have to iron the fabric, in fact: you are not allowed to iron the fabric. Let the garment dry flat and ironing is not necessary.

How do you care for cashmere?

To enjoy your cashmere item for a long time, it is important that you take good care of it.

► Wash your cashmere clothes by hand
► Use water that is not too hot and mild soap
► Soak your garment in the water for about five minutes
► If your cashmere clothes are really stained, rub very gently. If the stains do not want to come out, it is better to go to a dry cleaner.
► Wash your cashmere clothing carefully. So don't rub or wring too hard
► Rinse your clothes thoroughly with cold water after washing
► Squeeze out the water gently, you cannot wring out cashmere clothes!
► The best way to dry your cashmere clothing is to place it on a towel and let it dry that way.
